It’s a path that wasn’t always clear, but looking back, every step along the way makes perfect sense. I wanted to take a moment to share how I found photography, why I fell in love with it, and how it turned into my passion and profession.
How It All Started
Like many photographers, my journey began with a camera in hand—but not one that I initially thought would lead me to where I am today. I’ve always been a creative person, experimenting with different artistic mediums throughout my childhood. Whether it was painting, sketching, or writing, I was constantly trying to express myself in some way.
The pivotal moment came when I purchased my first “real” camera. It wasn’t anything fancy, just a beginner’s DSLR that was recommended by my high school photography teacher. At first, I didn’t know what I was doing, but I was instantly captivated by how powerful an image could be. I remember taking my first few photos, not with any technical knowledge or skill, but simply because I wanted to capture the world around me—the sunset over a quiet lake, my dog running through the grass, the little moments that were easy to overlook but so beautiful in their own right.
That was the moment I realized that photography was more than just a hobby—it was a way to document and freeze time. It was a chance to tell stories without using words.
Falling Deeper Into Photography
As I began taking more photos, I started learning about the technical side of photography—how to work with lighting, composition, and manual settings. What began as an experiment became a deep interest, and soon enough, photography was more than just an occasional pastime. I was always thinking about the next shot, the next creative idea, the next opportunity to capture a special moment.
In college, I decided to dive deeper into photography by taking a few classes. Those classes helped me refine my skills and understand photography as both an art and a craft. After college, I decided to take a leap and pursue photography professionally. It wasn’t easy at first. I started by offering my services to friends and family, building up my portfolio, and getting word-of-mouth referrals. I spent a lot of late nights editing photos and refining my process, and I learned a ton about what it truly means to run a business.
What I love most about being a freelance photographer is the ability to work with such a variety of clients. Whether it’s a couple looking for wedding photos, a small business owner needing professional product shots, or a family wanting to capture an important milestone, each project is a new challenge and an opportunity to grow.
Why Photography Means So Much to Me
For me, photography is about so much more than just taking pictures. It’s about creating lasting memories for others. It’s about the emotion that a single image can evoke—the joy of a couple in love, the excitement of a graduation day, or the quiet beauty of a solo portrait. Photography allows me to be a part of these moments and preserve them forever.
